Mixed Greens Salad with Strawberries and Avocados

I made this Mixed Green Salad with Strawberries and Avocados for a BBQ today and it was very, very good. I loved the way it was fruity and sweet, but the Parmesan cheese added just a little saltiness. I am definitely making this again! I would maybe even add thinly sliced red onion next time. Mixed Greens Salad with Strawberries, Avocado, and Candied Pecans For a large salad to feed about 6 adults: Ingredients:1 bag […]

How To Use a Molcajete

This, my friends, is a molcajete. I received this as a birthday gift in 2004 from some dear friends. My friend, a very good cook in his own right, hauled this and one for himself, all the way from Mexico to NY. It’s as heavy as it looks. Fast forward 3+ years, I am finally getting around to learning how to use a molcajete. Now I am addicted! What is a Molcajete? The traditional Mexican […]

Guacamole

I’ve been enjoying my molcajete to make guacamole. Of course, you don’t really need a molcajete, but it’s fun to use one anyway since I have it. I’ve noticed that some of the higher end Mexican restaurants will make table side guac using one. Supposedly it adds a unique flavor the the guacamole. I just think it’s kind of fun to use it.

Simmered Tomatillo-Serrano Chile Sauce

This is my favorite sauce–hands down. I love it. I have very tender memories of tasting this the first time. It left such an impression on me that I have been making it regularly ever since I tracked down the recipe in one of my favorite cookbooks, Rick Bayless’s Mexican Kitchen, a gift for my first Valentine’s Day as a married woman. Here we have the yummiest sauce: Simmered Tomatillo-Serrano Chile Sauce The key players […]

Berry Picking and Red Berry Sorbet

To say I have been slightly obsessed with picking berries this summer would be a slight understatement. Ever since I heard that a friend of mine would head up to a local farm to pick her own fruits and veggies last summer, I knew I MUST do that this summer. And so far, so good. We ventured up north from where we live to Dutchess County, NY to pick some luscious blueberries, and the strawberries […]

Brownies

The quest continued….until last night. I made these yummy brownies and they are almost exactly what I’ve been looking for in a brownie. Not pure fudge. Not cake. Chewy and chocolatey.
