Salmon Cakes with Leeks, Tartar Sauce and Chickpea Salad

We had some leftover Copper River Salmon that I couldn’t let go to waste.  Sure, we could have just eaten it cold on a sandwich or in a salad.  The idea of salmon cakes had us drooling though.  Big, luscious chunks of that succulent salmon held together with a bit of homemade mayo and (gluten-free) bread crumbs was just the thing for a quick, healthy summer meal. My husband and I teamed up to make […]

Pear, Chocolate, Hazelnut Tart (Gluten-Free)

A few weeks before Thanksgiving I gave up gluten again.  I was really wondering if I could be strong enough to resist all of my favorite Thanksgiving fixin’s that weren’t GF.  I made a plan so it would be easier to be good.  I looked for recipes on my favorite GF blogs so that I could be prepared with things on hand to take with me or eat before we went anywhere.  If I didn’t, […]

Starting Seeds and My Garden 2011.

Yesterday I bought some seeds, soil, and other seed starting supplies.  A few *ahem* dollars later, I had myself an early birthday present.  I thought it was appropriate considering I was born on the First Day of Spring.  (Anyone born on the 21st?  Let’s argue discuss.) When I lived in New York I had a porch garden where I grew mainly herbs–not much else survived.  When I moved to Utah, we had space for strawberries and […]

Creamy Peach Tart

I’m looking forward to August and when the heavenly local peaches magically appear by the bushel in roadside stands. I can taste and smell them if I close my eyes. Until then, I will settle for the early peaches that are available now. There’s always been something enigmatic about peaches. When I was a little girl, I remember peaches fresh from the tree in my grandparents’ back yard. We’d take great care to look for […]

TWD: Tartest Lemon Tart and Tiramisu Cake

I adore lemon desserts. This tart uses whole lemons (sans seeds) for the filling. We loved the slight bitterness from the pith. It had a tangy, yet sweet lemon marmalade flavor.  The full recipe can be found here. I didn’t do an nut crust like the recipe states. I had some of Dorie’s Sweet Tart Dough in my freezer from a few weeks ago, so I used that instead. It’s hard to tell from the […]

Blackberry Tartlets with Elderflower Ice Cream

There was a recipe back in a 2001 issue of Martha Stewart Living that paired elderflower ice cream with blackberry tartlets. I stole the idea and made it my own way. I can’t even find the link to the original recipe or the issue it was in. So you’ll have to take my word for it. :) The original tartlets had a filling that was more like a blackberry fool (berries+sugar+whipped cream). That seemed a […]

New Favorite: Lemon Goat Cheese Tart

One of my favorite cookbooks is The Cheese Lover’s Cookbook and Guide by Paula Lambert, owner of the Mozzarella Company based out of Dallas, TX. Paula includes many recipes using goat cheese. One that particularly caught my eye was for a Lemon Goat Cheese Tart. If you are a new reader, then you probably don’t know how much I adore goat cheese. I’m always looking for new ways to incorporate it into my diet. I’m […]

Frozen Coconut Key Lime Tart

This Frozen Coconut Key Lime Tart is really, really good. It’s so refreshing on a hot July day, or even a cold day in December. We love, love, love it! Really, we love anything with coconut and lime is sure to be a winner. There is coconut in both the crust and the filling. That little bit of shredded coconut really adds something special to the crust. The filling has cream of coconut, which isn’t […]

La Palette’s Strawberry Tart

What can I say about this tart that the pictures can’t say for me? Want a better look? The crust was perfect. Not too hard, not too soft. Perfect. The strawberries were sweet, the jam was gooey and delicious. I couldn’t put my camera down. It was so beautiful. I wasn’t sure I dared to cut it. Not even when my daughter, fork in hand, came to me crying for a piece, “Please, Mommy, please!” […]

Leeks 101 and A Leek-Goat Cheese Tart

I promise I’m almost done posting recipes with goat cheese in them. I just love Chevre too much, that’s my problem. And as you’ve seen, we have been eating a lot of it lately. We also love leeks. My husband requested a savory tart and I knew that leeks and goat cheese were the way to go. I also happened to have a sheet of puff pastry left in my freezer. (I still can’t figure […]
