Mini Pavlovas with Yogurt Cream and Mixed Fruit

My trek to cooking club didn’t pan out last night. My sweet little red-headed baby has been coming down with a cold and yesterday it finally hit full force. She was coughing so hard she threw up on me three times. Poor thing. I know how miserable she is because she caught that cold from me. (I think my husband was glad I stayed home.) So I still have a bunch of the mini pavlovas […]

Today’s Experiment: Mini Pavlovas

Today I’m attempting to make mini-pavlovas for cooking club tonight. The theme is eggs and I have a dozen egg whites just waiting to be made into lovely meringues. Instead of poached rhubarb, I’m using blackberries, strawberries, and kiwi. That lovely mound on top? It’s yogurt cream. Mmm…will report back tomorrow on my success or failure. UPDATE: I think they are actually ok! Hooray. I need an expert to decide, but I think my first […]

New Favorite: Lemon Goat Cheese Tart

One of my favorite cookbooks is The Cheese Lover’s Cookbook and Guide by Paula Lambert, owner of the Mozzarella Company based out of Dallas, TX. Paula includes many recipes using goat cheese. One that particularly caught my eye was for a Lemon Goat Cheese Tart. If you are a new reader, then you probably don’t know how much I adore goat cheese. I’m always looking for new ways to incorporate it into my diet. I’m […]

Banana Cream Pie

Pie is not my favorite dessert. I like it, I just don’t love it the way I love creme brulee or ice cream. Or cheesecake. Or chocolate chip cookies. Pie is pretty near the bottom of the list–one step above panettone. That being said, I actually do love banana cream pie. It surpasses my love/hate relationship with bananas. But…I didn’t like this pie. I don’t know why. I just didn’t care for it. But you […]

Spring-Summer Menu #12: Baked Tilapia, Rice Pilaf, and Roasted Asparagus

It’s time for me to resurrect the popular Spring-Summer Menu series I started last year. (For past menus click here.) I picked up a few pounds of pencil-thin asparagus this week at the grocery store. Tonight we just roasted it with a little olive oil. (On Saturday I’m making a Spring Vegetable Risotto with the other pound.) I love it when Spring produce makes its way into the stores. Hooray for asparagus! This time of […]

TWD: Coconut Butter Thins

I was looking at my archives a few days ago and realized that almost all of the cookies I’ve posted about on here have been for Tuesdays With Dorie. Dorie’s cookie recipes are so good. And I haven’t had to do much thinking–just look in her Baking book for all my cookie needs. Coconut Butter Thins. The name says it all. I had to deviate a little from the original recipe because of some trouble […]

Fresh Eggs

I have a super nice friend named Nat. Guess what? She has four chickens. This is one of them. (I love, love, love this picture Nat took.) What do lady chickens do? Lay some of these beauties… She shared with me. Isn’t she the best? When I showed my husband he forbade me from using them for anything other than eating. The yolks are so yellow and they taste so good. My dream is to […]

Faux-caccia Bread

Don’t you love the name of this post? My husband coined it last night as I was complaining that what I made was essentially thick, herbed pizza dough. See? It doesn’t look like what you’d normally call focaccia. Ah, well. Live and learn. But, it was very good, I’ll tell you. The kids and I were so hungry we ate a whole round warm out of the oven before dinner even started. I can’t wait […]

Blueberry Crumb Cake

I sort of have a thing for quick breads topped with streusel. That’s basically what this cake is. A giant blueberry muffin topped with streusel. I used pecans instead of walnuts. It’s a pretty good cake. My little girl ate the crumb topping and left the blueberries and cake for me. (I would have done the same thing.) In my book, this qualifies as both a breakfast and a dessert. That same little girl of […]

Oatmeal Molasses Bread

So I saw this funny thing somewhere on Twitter a few days ago. It was a website for a cookie diet. (Let me see if I can find it…ah, here it is. Click here.) I’ve been on that diet for a long time. It doesn’t work. Cookies for every meal does not help you lose weight. I hate to burst your bubbles full of hope. However, cookies for every meal is very delicious. (Especially breakfast.) […]
