Beet Green, Carrot, Apple, Orange Juice

Here’s a quick juice recipe that I really enjoyed earlier this week. I don’t love beets yet.  Still need to keep eating them until I do.  My neighbor gave me some of his famous beets–4 large ones with tons of greens attached.  I saved the beets for another use, plus they keep much longer than the greens.  The greens are soooo healthy and you should never, never throw them away.  Deal? This is a very […]

Cucumber Melon Kiwi Juice

I was going to take a new, pretty picture of this juice, but alas, I did not.  It’s so good I slurp it down too quickly. I am still juicing at least once a day most days.  I love drinking my veggies–packing as many into my day as possible.  It makes me feel better.  So I’ll keep going. Anyway, this is my favorite juice.  Ever since I discovered I do not have an allergy to […]

Eat Vegan On $4 A Day: Peanut Butter Smoothie

Smoothies have become my breakfast of choice most days.  I have been so busy with various things that drinking my breakfast while I’m working has been a wonderful solution.  If I don’t start the day out with a good breakfast, it’s almost certain the day won’t go as well.  See?  Your mom was right! This recipe comes from the newly released book, Eat Vegan on $4.00 a Day: A Game Plan for the Budget Conscious […]

Homemade Eggnog

After making homemade eggnog, you’ll never go back to store-bought.   That sickeningly sweet, corn syrupy, gloppy yellow stuff they call eggnog can’t hold a candle to this stuff. Even professed eggnog haters (like I was, formerly), will love it. We make it in big batches so we have enough to share when friends stop by, or so there’s plenty for us. Eggnog adapted from The Joy of Cooking  Ingredients: 3 cups whole milk, divided […]

Shirley Temple Floats

Being a mom to young kids, I am fond of non-alcholic cocktails and mixed drinks. I particularly like a nice, cold Shirley Temple, especially when it’s warm outside. A Shirley Temple can be made with ginger ale, 7-Up, or Sprite. It may or may not contain orange juice. Grenadine provides the lovely pink color, and a maraschino cherry tops it off. My Shirley Temple cocktails usually consist of Sprite (my favorite) and maraschino cherry juice/brine rather […]

Lavender Limeade

I wish I could convey in words how much I love lavender. I really, really, really love lavender. In our home you will find: lavender shampoo and conditioner, hand/body soap, dish soap, perfume, aftershave, baby oil, lotion, and diaper ointment. We are lavender fiends! Two summers ago, when I was on a Kouing Aman binge at Les Madeleines in Salt Lake City, Utah, I happened to notice Lavender Lemonade on the menu. So, of course […]
