Ice Cream Quad

Right now, as I type this, there are four delicious, delectable flavors of ice cream in my freezer. I’m on dessert overload right now. (Wouldn’t you be after all the cheesecakes and tortes? Holy moly.) I need more salad.

The recipes for two of these flavors, strawberry sour cream and passion fruit, have never been published here on the old blog. I’m excited about them. I made them up as I went. Who knew they’d be so good?

Do you want the long or short version of why there are four kinds of homemade ice cream in my freezer?

Short? Okay.

Well, it started with my obsession with lemon a few months ago when I first made Martha’s Rich Lemon Ice Cream. I said that I must have it for my birthday.

Then as my birthday got closer, I made an executive decision and switched from a lemon obsession to a passion for passion fruit. I never got around to making passion fruit ice cream to accompany my cake. I made about a month later. (And it’s still in the freezer…)

Then I remembered that I’d been promising pictures of the Bittersweet Chocolate Ice Cream for over a year…but I lost the file with all the pictures in it. Hmm.

Then I remembered this post over at Closet Cooking. I still needed some strawberries and sour cream.

And finally, I bought two quarts (yep–that’s 8 cups) of heavy cream. And it sat and sat and sat while the expiration date loomed in the near future.

I used some to make that delicious Lemon Mascarpone Cheesecake. (Yep–it’s still in the freezer, too.) And the rest got used in ice cream.

There you go. That was more of the long version, wasn’t it?
