PBS Food #CookForJulia

PBS Food has initiated the #CookForJulia campaign to commemorate Julia Child’s 100th Birthday.  Chefs, bloggers, and other food-lovers from around the world are coming together to cook their favorite Julia Child recipes from August 5-15th to celebrate her life and legacy.  You can join in on the fun too.

I wrote an essay/tribute, “Summers With Julia,” that you can read on the PBS Food website.  (I know.  I was so honored to have my essay included.)  And you can check out my take on Julia’s Floating Islands recipe from a few weeks ago, in case you  missed it.  Over the next few days I’ll be making more of my favorite recipes from her cookbooks and watching all of the episodes of Baking With Julia.

  1. When I was probably 11 or 12, my best friend and I loved cooking. We said we were going to own a catering company one day (we still laugh that I ended up doing that) and her dad bought us a computer program that was videos of Julia Child making delicious food. We loved the chocolate truffle one the best. We used to laugh and say “chocolate” the way Julia would.

    And years ago when vinyl lettering was the latest craze, I had a quote in my kitchen on the wall. It was Julia’s “If you are afraid of butter, use cream.”
