Hancock Shaker Village

Whew! We are back from our little jaunt to The Berkshires. We had a fabulous time and it was hard to come back home.

Our biggest day trip was spent up at the Hancock Shaker Village located just outside of Pittsfield, MA. What a fun place to visit! If you are ever in that area, I highly recommend a trip up there.

One of my very favorite exhibits to visit was the Brick Dwelling–a communal living dormitory. Not having known much about the Shakers before visiting, I was intrigued to learn about their history and way of life.

Of course, I really enjoyed my time in the basement of the Brick Dwelling where the kitchen was located.

I (sort of) have this dream of having a large, old-fashioned farm kitchen where I will preserve my own fruits and veggies and make homemade bread every day.

There were also rooms in the basement/cellar where food and drink were stored. Most of my pictures didn’t turn out because it was so dark. My favorite storage room was the preserves room. (Back home in Utah, I have a collection of old blue jars like the ones pictured below.)

P.S. I will be back on Monday with regular posting. Until then, my friends, I am going to enjoy the remainder of Spring Break.
